No Brasil, os 466 mortos brasileiros integrantes da Força Expedicionária que haviam sido enterrados, após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, no cemitério militar de Pistoia, na Itália, 19 foram transportados em urnas para o Brasil, em aviões da Força Aérea Brasileira, em 11 de dezembro de 1960. As urnas chegaram ao Rio de Janeiro em 16 do mesmo mês, ficando 22 expostas à visitação pública, no Palácio Tiradentes.
