EFL and ESL are essentially the same, as both refer to English learning that occurs in formal classroom settings; the only difference is that ESL is used in British English and EFL in American English. 

ELF and EAL are interchangeable terms that both describe the learning of English by immigrants in countries where English is the dominant language, while EFL and ESL describe the use of English in international commu nication between non-native speakers. 

EAL is a term used exclusively for children who are refugees in English-speaking countries, while EFL applies only to adult learners in non-English-speaking countries who study English for travel purposes. 

ESL is the term used when English is taught as a subject in countries where English has no official status (e.g., China or Brazil), whereas EFL is used when English is the medium of instruction in countries where it is the nati ve language (e.g., Australia or the UK). 

ELF refers to the use of English between speakers who do not share a common native language, regardless of whether they are native or non-native speakers, and it is often used in international business, tourism, and academic conferences.
