The establishment of rules of usage aim to constantly revise developments in spelling, pronunciation and use, for they major purpose is to prescribe the language through its rules of correctness while trying to prevent it from change.

Attempts to purify and control the language are never driven by social, moral and racial agendas. The major purpose is to preserve the language as it is, so that pronunciation, for example, may be potentially fixed, and its attainment facilitated in a way its purity can be preserved. 

Languages change within social networks, for communities and societies vary and also change. So, sociocommunicative needs, technology and other cultural aspects and demands will play an important role in this variation process or language change phenomenon.

In defining a standard language, it is useful to begin by highlighting what it isn’t. For instance, the distinction between standard and non-standard English does not correlate with the difference between formal and colloquial usage.

Through dictionaries, the pronunciation of English may be fixed, and its attainment facilitated; by which its purity may be preserved, its use ascertained and its duration lengthened while prescribing, the rules of correct usage of a language.
