O texto seguinte servirá de base para responder à questão.
Quem são os povos quilombolas?
Os povos quilombolas são descendentes de pessoas
negras escravizadas que resistiram à escravidão no
Brasil. Durante os séculos de escravidão no país, muitos
fugiram das fazendas de café e das plantações de
cana-de-açúcar e formaram comunidades conhecidas
como quilombos, geralmente em áreas de difícil acesso,
como as matas.
O termo "quilombo" vem da língua banto e significa
"povoação". Essas comunidades funcionavam com base
na coletividade com desenvolvimento social, econômico
e político. Com o tempo, mesmo após a destruição de
muitos quilombos, as comunidades sobreviventes se
fortaleceram e passaram a preservar suas tradições e
identidades.
Atualmente, segundo o Decreto n.º 4.887/2023, uma
comunidade quilombola é um grupo étnico-racial que se
autodeclara como tal, ou seja, que se reconhece como
descendente de quilombo e mantém práticas culturais,
sociais e religiosas próprias. O reconhecimento leva em
conta critérios étnico-raciais e culturais, respeitando o
direito à autodeclaração, algo fundamental para a
valorização da diversidade e da identidade quilombola no
país.
Os quilombolas são agricultores, guardiãs de sementes,
marisqueiras e pescadores, apanhadores de flores, de
coco-babaçu, de açaí, de buriti e outras práticas com
base no cultivo.
Um dos quilombos mais conhecidos da história do Brasil
é o Quilombo dos Palmares, fundado no século XVI na
região da Serra da Barriga, localizada em Alagoas. [...]
Durante quase cem anos, Palmares resistiu aos ataques
de tropas portuguesas, holandesas e bandeirantes
paulistas, sendo destruído em 1695. [...] Os ataques aos
quilombos aconteciam porque os negros escravizados
fugiam das fazendas, em busca de liberdade e para
escapar de violências que sofriam. Muitos quilombolas
foram mortos por resistirem à recaptura e suas moradias
destruídas. Essa destruição também tinha o objetivo de
impedir que os fugitivos cultivassem a terra, inclusive a
cana-de-açúcar. Para os senhores de engenho, atacar o
Quilombo dos Palmares significava não apenas
recuperar a mão de obra escravizada, mas também
garantir que o plantio de cana ficasse restrito às suas
próprias fazendas. [...]
Atualmente, os quilombos continuam sendo espaços de
preservação cultural e resistência. Nessas comunidades,
os quilombolas mantêm costumes, religiões, formas de plantio, culinária e conhecimentos tradicionais passados
de geração em geração.

Quilombolas e o meio ambiente
Os povos quilombolas vivem em regiões com grande
riqueza natural e podem exercer papel importante na
proteção desses espaços. Ao proteger florestas, rios e
manguezais, essas comunidades ajudam a evitar a
degradação ambiental e garantem a manutenção do
equilíbrio da natureza. [...] Eles também se organizam,
muitas vezes, para enfrentar ameaças como a pesca
predatória, o despejo de resíduos e o avanço de
empreendimentos que colocam em risco o meio
ambiente.
Os quilombolas combinam conhecimento ancestral com
a ação coletiva para defender seus territórios. Um
exemplo é o Quilombo Kalunga, localizado na Chapada
dos Veadeiros (Goiás). Em 2023, moradores atuaram
como brigadistas na prevenção de incêndios florestais. O
conhecimento tradicional dos kalungas sobre o manejo
do fogo, somada às técnicas de pesquisadores do
Cerrado que atuam junto ao quilombo, contribuíram para
reduzir os incêndios e facilitar o trabalho dos agricultores
locais. [...]
Diante dos efeitos das mudanças climáticas, a
preservação dos territórios quilombolas se torna ainda
mais urgente. [...] No Brasil, por exemplo, a mudança
climática afeta a produção de alimentos e a
disponibilidade de água, o que atinge diretamente
comunidades tradicionais que dependem da agricultura e
dos recursos naturais. [...] Para essas comunidades, isso
significa enfrentar dificuldades no acesso à água potável,
riscos à segurança alimentar e à continuidade de
práticas culturais ligadas à terra e à natureza.
